What you gain from a measured steel gate
Proper fit first time
We fabricate to your opening, so awkward widths and non-standard spans are handled.
Hardware that matches the job
Hinges, latches and posts are chosen to suit weight, use and boundary conditions.
Manual gate expertise
If powered access may follow later, we'll advise when automation should be planned.
A gate that suits the opening, not the shelf
If you've got an opening that doesn't suit a stock gate, forcing a standard size into place usually ends with poor gaps, awkward swing and a latch that never quite sits right. Wingfield Fencing Ltd makes steel gates to suit the opening, the way you use it and the boundary around it. That means looking at pedestrian or vehicle access, deciding between a single leaf or a pair, setting a sensible height and working out how much privacy or security you actually want.
From our Alfreton workshop to final fitting on site, we keep the job under one roof, so the people measuring, fabricating and installing are working to the same plan.

Details that decide how well a gate works
The small details make the big difference. A gate needs the right posts or supports, enough ground clearance to move freely and hinges and latches aligned properly so it opens and closes without a fight. We also think about how the gate meets walls, fencing and existing entrances, because a neat fit is no use if daily use is awkward. If you need powered opening rather than a manual gate, we'll point you towards a separately planned electric gate system so the structure, clearances and access method are designed the right way from the start.
Frequently asked questions
Can you make a steel gate for an awkward opening?
Yes. Rough sizes and a few photographs are often enough to start the conversation, then we can arrange accurate site measuring before fabrication. That lets us make the gate to the opening instead of asking the opening to suit a standard gate.
Do I need new posts for a steel gate?
Not always, but the existing supports need to be strong, straight and suited to the gate weight. If posts are tired, out of line or undersized, replacing them is often the best way to avoid sagging, poor closing and repeat adjustments later.
What if I want the gate to be automated later?
Tell us early if automation may be on the cards. A gate that might be powered later can need different clearances, support details and hardware. If powered access is the real goal, we can guide you to the electric gate service from the outset.
